John’s interest in teacher agency with EdTech derives from his experience as a teacher and as a teacher educator, including as director of the UEA Initial Teacher Education partnership for East Anglia. His research has addressed teachers’ talk and interactions around texts and resources, and informal learning for information literacy.

Gerard’s wide-ranging and recent academic research includes Digital Transformation. He attracted funding for an EPSRC Next Stage Digital Economy Hub called DIGIT and the EPSRC UK-India Future Networks Initiative. He is a Member of the UKRI-EPSRC Digital Security & Resilience Advisory Group and the EPSRC ICT Strategic Advisory Team.

Mrs Deirdre Medler

Deirdre provides strategic leadership for the university’s ITE programmes. Her responsibilities include the development of partnership with schools, academies and trusts in the region, and networking regionally and nationally to represent and develop UEA’s profile and reputation as a high quality and innovative provider of ITE.

Kristi is a former teacher whose work considers pedagogic agency with EdTech. Her research interests include technology’s effects on disciplinary literacy, teacher education and professional learning, and education ecosystems. As an Associate Tutor, she contributes to modules that explore current and future uses of EdTech in and beyond classrooms.

Helen is a computer scientist and former teacher currently working at the Norfolk Computing Hub. Her research interests include the teaching of computing in schools, the curriculum, usability of websites and compliance with web accessibility guidance. She is also an Associate Tutor in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning.

Maddy is an experienced Education Administrator and former Teacher. Her role is to coordinate meetings and events with partner organisations, including school focus groups, prepare resources and materials and field enquiries. She has worked in Universities, local government and schools across the UK.

Kimberley is an applied social psychologist with expertise in motivation and wellbeing. Her research is primarily guided by self-determination theory, which emphasises the need for autonomy/agency, and her more recent research explores the utility of technology and online platforms in intervention work with teachers and young people in educational settings.

As a Lecturer in Computing Sciences at UEA and Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton, Rob holds a doctorate in Web Science. With over 25 years in education, he specializes in leveraging technology for teaching and research, particularly social media and online CPD courses in Data Science and AI.

Jeannette’s expertise lies in ubiquitous computing and real-time End User Programming systems development, leveraging everyday artefacts and connectivity. Research interests include HCI, UX and the development of interfaces sensitive to human mandate. Her recent work includes applying ML on big data to solve problems and enhancing teaching agency with technologies.

His research encompasses an examination of education policy, drawing broadly from education, sociology, critical policy studies. Harry is a digital sociologist and educational researcher at the University of East Anglia. His research broadly explores the impact of social media on culture, public knowledge, and education. He serves as Editor of Digital Culture and Education, and is co-convener of the British Sociological Association’s Digital Sociology Study Group.

Rudy’s interest in teaching at A and GCSE levels stems from his role as his department’s Admissions Director where he organised internal and external workshops about state-of-the-art IT technology such as programmable robots, Virtual Reality, computer games and human motion capture, for local schools’ teaching staff and students.

Alongside his role at DEFI, Professor Bryan Maddox is Executive Director of Assessment MicroAnalytics Ltd and Visiting Professor at the Centre for Educational Measurement, University of Oslo. An anthropologist by training, his current research focuses on the digital transition in educational assessment, with a particular interest in inclusion and diversity.

Kate’s research focuses on gender and sexualities in sporting, leisure, PE, and teacher education contexts. Kate also researches wellbeing in teacher training and other educational settings including the role of mindfulness in supporting speech and communication in early years, and in the potential impact of mindfulness for teacher wellbeing.
